Swept Away (a poem)

Swept Away

©Louise Gallagher

Your breath whispers
a thousand promises
swept away

my body
awakens

where your touch
measures

my pulse

pounding
passion
rises

I melt

my heart
beating
madly
against
your mouth
consuming me
laying bare
my secrets
revealed
in shadowy light

your lips
peel back

my skin

pulsing
resistance
collapses

I fall

my mind
running
wildly
into
your body
revealing
a thousand promises
breathing
down
my body

I am
swept away.

It is another One Stop Poetry Sunday hosted by the oh so talented and creative Adam Dustus. Today's photo prompt from self-taught photographer Lisa Michelle Arhontidis is your invitation to create a poem (or Flash Fiction 55) inspired by her photo.

Go on! Give it a go. It's fun and challenging and exciting... and it just might take you out of your comfort zone into that amazing place where wonder begins and anything can happen! Click on over to One Stop Poetry and explore your imagination.
This poem is also linked through to Jingle Poetry's Poetry Potluck -- the theme of which this week is Dreams, Visions and Reveries -- there's some amazing poetry there too!

Enjoy!

  1. This prompt is inspiring poets to be swept away.

I particularly like this line: "a thousand promises/breathing/down/ my body".

  2. There's a rhythm to your minimalist lines that sounds great, carries out the whisper introduced in the first line. Love how your poem comes full circle to the title. Excellent challenge entry. Cheers :)

  12. Like the form of it, the flow - the utilization of shorter lines and single words heightened the pace, sweeps you right along. Rhythmic passion, with wonderful image capture. Fine work.

  28. This is really great, the style is perfectly fitting.
What I like most is that it's romantic and passionate without being obscene, which is a tough line. Well done.
