I wrote this poem for Abbey of the Arts Poetry Party #47, the theme for which is "Autumn Blessings". the photograph is one of the Abbey's Christine Valters Paintners prompts for the poetry party.
Anyone may share his or her inspiration at Abbey of the Arts by contributing a poem "about the gifts, graces, invitations, questions, and challenges of autumn." Be sure to provide in the comments section here the text of your poem and, if you wish, a link to your blog or the site where your poem appears.
On Friday, September 17, a name from among those participating will be drawn at random. The winner will receive a signed copy of Christine Valters Paintner's Water, Wind, Earth, and Fire: The Christian Practice of Praying with the Elements. Thank you Maureen at Writing without Paper for the descriptive words to Abbey of the Arts Poetry Party.
In the Mist of Autumn Falling
siltently autumn falls
red and gold
upon a bed of green
cool like your touch
upon my cheek
I feel your breath
gently rising in the mist
whispering, whispering.
whispering
sweet succulent words
of promises
never spoken
strewn like fallen leaves
upon the story
of our love
lost
and never found
in autumn falling all around.
you were so fresh
the breath of spring
bathing
my senses
in the heady dew
of your touch
awakening my soul’s
journey back
to the cradle of your arms.
safe, I surrendered
to your voice calling me
home
home to where my heart
breaks
open
I fall
in love.
and then you are gone
gone like summer
falling, falling.
falling into autumn's embrace
I lay
still
my heart
beats
silently
in the mist of autumn
falling.

Lovely, Louise. I like the cadence, the sense of "autumn falling all around" echoed in your words about love cooling and falling away.
I'm going to tweet this. Please consider adding your link at One Stop Poetry's One Shot Wednesday post.
Such beautiful imagery Louise, thank you so much.
Thanks for the tweet Maureen!
And thank you Christine for dropping by.
Beautiful. When I finally surrender to and fall into autumn, winter steals her away. ;)
Haha -- ain't that the truth Sandra. Darn winter! :)
My comment kind of exploded, so I'll try again...
I was just saying how your words fall on me sweet also. A very lovely poem. And that photo is so poignant.
