Rolling on by
I am outside
looking in
windows blurred
faces streaking past
You are inside
looking out
I see you
Do you see me
rollin' on by?
I follow the light
of your face
carried away
carried away
into the distance
train tracks lined up
side by side
side by side
parallel worlds
rolling along
parallel worlds
rolling along.
Where do you go?
Where do you go?
Rollin' on by
on parallel tracks
leading you
into the distance
taking you
taking you
away
away
rolling
rolling
far
far
from here
where I stand
in the pitch dark
of night
light falling
from a window
where you sit
looking out
at me
looking in
at you
rollin' on by.
This is my second time participating at the dVerse Poets Pub. Today's challenge is to write a poem based on the theme of a train. Do take the time to come over and visit this wonderful poetry community called dVerse Poets Pub. Today's host is the amazing Claudia Schoenfeld of jaywalking the moon.

I love the click-clack of this, Louise! It really captures that train cadence, and the feeling when you pass another train. It's so odd when both trains are going in the same direction, and you hover there together for a while. :-) But in this case, you see a face go by in a lit train while you are in the dark. Funny how those visions can stick with you, even though you know you won't see that person again.
LG
a poetic morning
I just wrote one too:
PROMISE
promise neither binds or makes us happy
because all that is real is what we feel
Cheers,
Mark
Your poem mimics the hypnotic effect of the rolling-on trains and that kind of acknowledgment that happens in the instance of passing by.
Thanks Ruth -- I am always curious about strangers passing by. My daughters and I used to make up stories about them. It was one of our favourite games to play together.
thanks for 'dropin' on by' :)
How lovely Mark.
thanks!
Thank you Maureen.
I was looking to create that affect so I'm glad it came through!
:)
Your poem is like a train track, and we're moving on down the line. Good one, Louise.
Thanks Glynn!
And thanks for the twitter mention too :)
I read this not realizing this was for dVerse's Train post. I loved it and got it right away! Love it, really. I missed linking, but did create a train post in memory of Judy Garland... This was really nice... loved the ending... pitch dark where you are... light falling from a window where you sit ..
Such longing... very nice.
Thank you Margaret! I love that your face is so familiar to me -- I've seen you at other bloggers -- and so lovely to have you visit here.
I'll visit you later -- I want to read your Judy Garland tribute -- my mother was always told she looks like Judy Garland, and I have always been told, I look like Liza Minelli!
Hmmm... could be a song! :-)
