Them. Us. Not me. Not you. (A Poem)

Was it them?

Was it us
or was it them
who said
we didn’t
do
what they said
we should have done
when they did
what we wanted them to do
but didn’t know
how to ask to get
what they wanted
what they said
was ours for the getting
if we just
trusted them.

That’s why it’s true,
They created the mess
we’re in
not me
not you
but them
so they should clean it up
even if we messed it up
trying to get
what they had
that we wanted
because of them
we are too
far down the road
to look back and see
what we did
to get us here
was what they were doing
too.

It Was Them, Not Us.

If you take the us out of them
you’ll still get
us looking at them
and them looking at us
wondering
what’s the difference
between us and them.
It’s simple you say
they have
what we want
and they want
to keep it.

Why can’t they just
give it
to us
too
and then we’d be
just like them
seeing us
as someone
other than
them.

Them Not Us - Audio Recording on Sunday night by Louiseg88

I wrote this, inspired by my friends Glynn Young and his post, Occupy #All of the Above and Joyce Wycoff at Peaceful Legacies and her post, yesterday, Political: Yin and Yang of OWS. Thanks my friends for continuing to inspire me to do more, write more, create more! and then, I recorded it at the prodding of my friend Nance Marie at A Little Something -- she put up the gidget yesterday for her friends to share their poetry and voices: Voices and Friends. Poetry Reading.

Your reading demonstrates that this is a poem to be heard. It came alive through your voice and inflections.

So simple. So beautiful. Those incredible pronouns, little words that divide the world.

very wise poems. its true that our virtues/vices play equal role in the path we choose.

sometimes our virtues are abused to no end thus we end up at an undesirable patch.

sometimes we too walk that path willingly but later try to deny to even ourselves that we did that.

human mind is trickster.

Ah yes, Trisha -- human mind is trickster. And we must all open up to hearing what it's saying so we're not tricked into believing everything we think!
